30 year old male patient (B) with lumbar disc bulge leading to foot drop
B suffered a fall, leading to severe back-pain and restricted movement in the waist and hip. Local physician prescribed analgesics and bed rest for 10 days. On the fifth day, B experienced mild difficulty in raising right foot and excruciating pain in the lower back.
IM practitioner suspected a foot drop due to pressure on spinal nerve roots and arranged for an MRI of the lumbar spine to confirm. Post MRI, B was referred to a spinal surgeon, who confirmed a lumbar disc bulge.
B underwent immediate surgery to relieve the nerve impingement, followed by regular Physiotherapy and intensive massage and Acupuncture therapy for 4 months to ease muscle tension and to improve para-spinal muscle tone.
B recovered completely with no further symptoms or relapse.
